How are open data and public service innovation connected?

On March 22, we’re hosting an event at the Ministry of Administrative and Bureaucracy Reform in Jakarta: “Innovation in Public Services through Open Data: Learning from Indonesian Cross-Sectoral Champions”. The event will have two components – a forum and an exhibition – and aims to introduce the different actors implementing innovative, open data-driven solutions to improve public services and financial transparency.

Globally, the open data movement has gained traction with an increasing number of governments being challenged to release their data online in machine readable, standardised formats, free of intellectual property restrictions. Advocates argue that open data can support greater transparency, more efficient public service, higher community resilience, and foster innovation and economic development. In this forum, we will discuss the interlinks between openness and innovation within the Indonesian government by focusing on novel initiatives that strengthen financial transparency and accountability and promote effective public service delivery using open data.

The event is organised with the Ministry of Administrative and Bureaucracy Reform (Kementerian Pendayagunaan Aparatur Negara dan Reformasi Birokrasi) and Open Government Indonesia, with the support of Ford Foundation and Making All Voices Count. We’re expecting approximately 120 attendees from local government, international organisations, civil society, academia, and media.

The agenda below gives a concrete idea of the topics we will cover during the sessions. For inquiries about the event and how to get involved, get in touch with Antya Widita (antya@webfoundation.org) or via Twitter @AntyaWidita.
