Just like busy bees, the Jakarta Lab is packed with projects to wrap-up, activities to organise, and events to attend in the next weeks. From now until June, come say hi to us if you find yourself in any of the below number of events.
For the month of April:
- From April 27 to 28, we’ll be at The Impacts of Civic Technology Conference (TICTeC) 2016 in Barcelona, Spain. There, we’ll be presenting five case studies from Indonesia and the Philippines, and delve on the potential open data has in diffusing and distorting prevailing power relations. Based on the case studies, we’ll explore how open data provides avenues for citizens to exert efforts to reclaim their space in political decision-making, agenda-setting, and meaning-making.
- From April 27 to 28, we’ll also be in Banda Aceh, Indonesia, to give trainings on data usage, visualisation, and publication. The workshop is organised by one of our partner organisations, GeRAK Aceh, and attended by local government representatives and advocacy groups. Other sessions that will take place in the event include data scraping and cleaning, as well as creating and effectively using infographics to relay findings and influence decision-makers.
In May, you could find us at:
- From May 2 to 4, we’ll be at Re:publica 2016 in Berlin, Germany, and from May 5 to 8, we’ll be participating in the related networking event, Global Innovation Gathering. The event and network aim to bring together makerspaces, tech hubs, and innovation labs to exchange experiences, skills, and tools to foster development. This year’s convention will provide new and exciting tracks tackling immersive arts and virtual reality, as well as more conventional but not less exciting topics such as health and tech in fashion. The Jakarta Lab will be participating in the series of lightning talks, where we’ll share our open data journey in Southeast Asia, as well as the social impacts of open data we’ve seen in the region.
- Finally, from 10 to 11 May, we’ll be at the Harnessing the Data Revolution for Resilience Summit to be held in Bangkok, Thailand. The event is organised by USAID RDMA, together with fhi360, and touches on the data revolution and how data and technology could be utilised and mobilised for resilience. We’ll be sharing the various models and approaches we’ve developed and tested that show the central role citizens play in bringing about social change through open data. We will also highlight the importance of empowering citizens to ensure that the data revolution is open and inclusive.
If you’ll be in any of these events, let us know through Twitter @ODLabJkt! We’re excited to meet new people, exchange ideas, discuss projects and possible collaborations, or even just say hi. In the coming months, we’ll also have more activities and events lined up and organised by the Jakarta Lab, so make sure to stay in touch.
We hope to hear from you at the next event!
