This week we\u2019re in Buenos Aires, Argentina for IODC18 \u2014 the\u00a0International Open Data Conference<\/a>. Thursday 28<\/h3>\n
\nWith changing political headwinds, open data initiatives in some quarters are stalling. Join Nnenna, the\u00a0ODI<\/a>\u2019s Jeni Tennison, and others to discuss how the open data movement can move forward.<\/p>\n
\nAna and Miko will join this panel to discuss the State of Open Data \u2014 a research project taking stock of the progress made on open data 10 years after the movement began.<\/p>\n
\nJoin Ana, Nnenna and Miko for a collaborative discussion about how open data can be better used to support women around the globe. They\u2019ll share the results of a recent Web Foundation report:\u00a0Is open data working for women in Africa?<\/i><\/a><\/p>\n
\nAna and Oscar Montiel from OKI will talk about the difference between true openness and \u2018open washing\u2019 \u2014 where an institution\u2019s claim to openness is undermined by its actions.<\/p>\n

Friday 29<\/h3>\n
\nAs ever more of our daily actions are translated into data, we\u2019re seeing a loss of privacy and control as these data flow to governments and private companies. Join Miko and OKI Finland\u2019s Teemu Ropponen to talk about how we can put people back at the center of this data revolution.<\/p>\n
\nMeasurement matters. Not only does it quantify performance, it can change the behaviour of those being measured. Ana will join this discussion about existing open data measurement tools and how the landscape can be improved.<\/p>\n
\nCarlos will join this panel about data governance, exploring how best to improve the way governments are creating, managing, and using open data across departments and agencies.<\/p>\n
\nJoin Miko and others from across Asia, Africa, and Latin America, who will share their experiences building open data ecosystems in the Global South. Participants will work in small groups to unpack the lessons they learned.<\/p>\n
\nAna, Nnenna and Juan will discuss how open data and AI can be used within the framework of digital equality \u2014 and what key players can do to mitigate potential harms, implement data ethics and practice responsible data.<\/p>\n
