The Open Data Day is taking place this Saturday, 21 February 2015, in various cities around the world, with the underlying theme ‘Open Data + You + Your Community + Your Timezone = Around the World’. Naturally, we at the Open Data Lab Jakarta made sure to join in on the fun too! Together with the Humanitarian OpenStreetMap Team in Indonesia, we will be giving a joint training on the data mining and cleaning tools Overpass-Turbo and OpenRefine, making use of data from OpenStreetMap and the government’s open data portal.
Overpass-Turbo is a web-based tool for mining collected OpenStreetMap field data, which displays the results through an interactive map. OpenRefine is a tool for improving the quality and coherence of muddled data. For the Open Data Day training, we will be giving the participants the overview for using both tools, as well as sharing with them key features such as Overpass query Wizard, OSM data type and tags, and how to use data transformations and clustering, amongst other topics lined up. A full list of the modules we will tackle could be found here.
From 13:00 to 16:00 this coming Saturday, join us at Jl. Pati No. 1, Menteng, 10310 Jakarta. We will be providing the training using an interactive approach, and with snacks, fun and insights from data experts on these tools. The training is open to developers, designers, and advocates with a keen interest in learning and familiarizing themselves with the two powerful tools—Overpass-Turbo and OpenRefine – to work more effectively with open data through data mining and cleaning. We have a limited number of slots available, so if you’d like to join – whether by yourself or with your team – register here now, drop us a message on Twitter at @ODLabJkt, or contact josef@jakarta.labs.webfoundation.org.
See you at the event!
